Team Kärnten started strong, storming to a 16-7 lead in the first period, capitalizing on sharp shooting and tight defense. KK Kostrena fought back in the second quarter, outscoring their opponents 18-12 to trim the deficit and set up a tense second half.
The third period remained tightly contested, with Team Kärnten maintaining a slight edge at 14-13. The fourth quarter was a nail-biter, with KK Kostrena scoring 13 points and Team Kärnten countering with 12, ultimately allowing Team Kärnten to hold on for the 3-point win.
The player of the game was undoubtedly Guggi Johanna, whose all-around performance was pivotal to Team Kärnten’s victory. Making 9 of 12 field goals for 18 points, she dominated the boards with 13 rebounds (6 offensive and 7 defensive) and contributed a crucial steal. Despite 5 turnovers, her efficiency rating of 19 and plus-minus of +11 underscored her impact on the court.
For KK Kostrena, Tešar Leticia led the charge with a game-high 26 points. She fired 12 baskets out of 35 attempts, including an effective 40% from beyond the arc, and grabbed 7 rebounds with solid defensive contributions. However, her team's inability to hit free throws (0-for-0 in the stat line) and turnovers in critical moments hindered their efforts to close the gap.
Ilijić Ana also gave a strong showing with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals, highlighting her defensive prowess despite shooting struggles from three-point range. On Team Kärnten’s side, Hassler Sophia added 10 points and 7 rebounds, providing steady support down the stretch.
This contest displayed the young athletes’ determination and skill development as the LWB U14 season progresses. The close scoreline indicates that both teams are well-matched and promise exciting basketball in future fixtures.
As Team Kärnten celebrates their narrow victory, KK Kostrena will look to improve on their shooting efficiency and limit turnovers in upcoming games. The league continues to be a fertile ground for emerging talents making their mark early in the season.
